Fishes have few problems getting rid of the nitrogenous by products of protein metabolism.Up to 90% of the nitrogenous wastes are eliminated as ammonia by diffusion across gill surfaces.Even though ammonia is toxic, aquatic organisms can have it as an excretory product because ammonia diffuses in surrounding water The remaining 10% of nitrogenous wastes are excreted as urea, creatine or creatinine .These wastes are produced in the liver and are excreted via kidneys.
