Order Caudata

Members of the order caudata are salamanders. They possess a tail throughout life, both pairs of legs,when present are relatively unspecialized.
Approximately 115 of the 350 described species of salamanders live in North America.Most terrestrial salamanders live in moist forest floor litter and have aquatic larvae. Members of family salimandridae are commonly called newts.They range in length from only a few cm to 1.5 m .The largest North American salamander is the hellbender which reaches length of about 65 cm.
